How Early Should You Order a Custom Cake in Melbourne?
A simple timeline for birthdays, baby showers, weddings, and last-minute celebration cakes.

The sweet spot is two to four weeks
For most birthday, milestone, and kids cakes, two to four weeks gives the studio enough time to confirm your design, source decorations, finalise flavours, and protect your preferred pickup or delivery window.
If your cake includes handmade toppers, complex florals, sculpted details, or a larger guest count, earlier is better. The extra time gives the design room to breathe without rushing the finish.
Wedding and large event cakes need longer
Wedding cakes, multi-tier celebration cakes, and orders with venue coordination should ideally start four to eight weeks ahead. That gives you time to align colours, serving sizes, delivery timing, and display details.
If the date is locked in but the design is still evolving, submit the enquiry anyway. A booking conversation can begin before every detail is perfect.
Last-minute can still be possible
Short notice orders depend on capacity, design complexity, and ingredient availability. A clean buttercream finish, simple florals, or a design inspired by an existing Simshine cake is usually easier to fit in than a heavily customised build.
When enquiring last-minute, include the event date, guest count, flavour preference, and whether pickup or delivery is needed. Clear details help the studio respond quickly.
